Even Better Template Customization Now Available

If you’re a designer, or you have a designer that works on your website and emails, the new message editor makes it incredibly easy to design the slick emails you desire for your email marketing campaign.

Most discussion here has focused on the drag-and-drop aspect of the editor because it makes it easy for the business owner who’s not HTML-savvy to create emails. But the raw HTML editor is available for extensive customization with a full screen mode that lets you choose a white or black background. The recent changes to the message editor make it even better for designers.

Earlier this week, we talked about how you can save templates to use in your entire account. But today we’ll look at what advanced customization options designers now have…

Designers, when you’re in your client’s account, you’ll notice something new when you click on the Messages tab:

The “Email Template Manager” link will take you to a page that has a button for “New Template.” Click it and select “Developer Mode” to get started.

When you get to the next page you will see something that says “Email Layout & Drop Zones.” When you click on it, you’ll see the many different elements you have to edit:

Select any one of them, and you have your edit box plus a link that says “Documentation and Code Example.” This will bring up a box that looks like this:

With this information, you can create a fully customized template that can be used in the drag-and-drop editor. Pretty cool, right?

You may or may not be aware of the AWeber Labs site. This is the go-to place for developers who want to create apps to integrate other services with AWeber.

The Labs site has been updated to include tools for designers that will give you full documentation on our email theme language so you have everything you need to know about making completely customized templates in the new message editor.

You can check out the documentation HERE.

Customers, your designer can now create a template for you and save it, and that template will be available for you in every list for both broadcasts and follow ups. What’s more, you can use the drag-and-drop editor on it to make your own changes as necessary.

So now the message editor is easy for designers AND easy for you, allowing you to focus on what matters most: your business.
